Preview: BluesFest London 2011

Ok so yeah, it's a bit early for us to be telling you about this, like. But there are just so many really awesome acts playing that you'd be kicking yourself (or us) if you hadn't had the heads up about it.

This June sees the first ever London Blues Festival. It actually runs from Monday 27th June through to Sunday 3rd July, and is spread across 9 of the capital's most iconic venues: the 100 Club, the Union Chapel, the Bush Hall, and the Indig02... It's even helping to christen a brand new joint, Under the Bridge, in Fulham.

The festival comprises well over 30 class acts. We're talking the legendary likes of Liza, and BB King, and Georgie Fame. There are opportunities to see performers who really only pop up once in a blues-moon: we've pencilled guitar god Al Di Meola and honey-voiced Al Jarreau into our diaries. There are relative newcomers, such as Trombone Shorty and Hayley Sanderson. And there are some homegrown heroes such as Ray Gelato and the deeply and importantly talented Dr. Feelgood (pictured above).

Summer. City. Blues. Makes you smile just thinking about it. Someone pour us a JD.
