The Olympic Velodrome, created by Hopkins Architects, has been awarded a RIBA Award for architectural excellence and made the longlist for the 2011 Stirling Prize. It is the first Olympic building to get a gong.

The Guardian says the Velodrome's nickname is the Giant Pringle. Product placement aside, we're not buying it. Wonky Wicker Fruitbasket, maybe. Or from a certain angle, a tribute to Jesper Parnevik's hat. What say you?

Other London award winners include the Angel Building N1, Chiswick House Cafe W4, Leighton House Museum W14 and One New Change.

Olympics coverage sponsored by adidas and Stella McCartney, who have combined their talents to produce a range of sports and leisure clothing inspired by Team GB. Find out more here.
