New Festival: The Apple Cart, Victoria Park

Sunday 7th August sees a new one-day event set up its stall in East London’s Victoria Park, and comes to us courtesy of the folks behind the excellent Field Day festival. The Apple Cart will be throwing into their cider press a juicy mix of music, comedy, art, cabaret, magic and food by Venn Street Market.

Musical merriment will be provided by Saint Etienne, Mercury Award winner Badly Drawn Boy, Steve Mason (he of The Beta Band), folkster / writer James Yorkston, enfant terrible Chilly Gonzales and The Magic Numbers. Soul II Soul will also be there providing a P.A. Set (although between you and us, we’re not entirely sure what that means but the website says Jazzy B. will be there… which is the main thing).

DJ sets will be provided by Radio 1’s Giles Peterson, Sean Rowley (founder of Guilty Pleasures) and Dexy’s front man Kevin Rowland. Belly laughs will (hopefully) be supplied by Radio 4 / BBC4 rent-a-grumble Marcus Brigstocke, Paul Chowdhry and cheeky chappy Jonathan Richardson.

And if all that wasn’t enough, you can spice up your Bulmers with additional fun from Magic Circle members, an art car boot sale and what is described as an art happening from the House of Fairy Tales.

The festival is family-friendly and will even let in under 14s for free (provided they’re yours and you’re over 18, of course).

All in all, a pretty decent way to spend a Sunday.
