London Artists: Rosalind Freeborn's Paper Portraits And Local Shopkeepers

Rosalind Freeborn is an artist working out of a studio in Muswell Hill. A few years back, she painted a touching series of portraits of local shopkeepers, including her cheesemonger, newsagent and butchers. In keeping with the 'local' theme, these went on show in the neighbourhood estate agents.

Her latest project looks beyond N10 to the world of fame and celebrity. Using thousands of fragments of paper torn from magazines, Rosalind has created these beautiful 'paper portraits' of well known personalities. Her likenesses include Andrew Marr, Bob Hoskins and Fay Weldon.

A third series of images depicts the seasonal ice rinks of London, including Somerset House, Hampton Court and Marble Arch. The Lowry-esque depictions are also made from torn out paper.

Rosalind's paper portraits aren't restricted to the famous, however, and she's accepting commissions via her web site.
