We say ignore all that because badminton has a big green light in the excitement stakes as far as we’re concerned with our home squad getting ready for London to host the Yonex Badminton World Championship for the first time. And there’s a Londoner representing in the shape of Commonwealth Games silver medallist Rajiv Ouseph – born and raised in Hounslow – and currently England’s top-ranked singles player at No 19 in the world.
At grass roots level, badminton is also enjoying a resurgence in schools and to capitalise on this growth Badminton England will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest sports lesson in the world’ on Friday 3 June at the O2. And you could be there! No badminton experience is necessary but you might go away with some. Register to take part now.
And come on Team GB Badders!!
The World Badminton Championship takes place at Wembley Arena between 8-14 August. NB This is an Olympic test event!
