Why Sport Matters: SportAccord Conference In London

Sport is a hotter topic than usual this week as global sporting umbrella organisation SportAccord gathers its international sport federation members and representatives of Olympic organisations from around the world into one (today, we suspect, sweaty) conference centre at the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster.

The theme of the convention is Why Sport Matters. Boris Johnson addressed the conference today on why sport matters to London.

In other Sport Accord related news, Playfair 2012 picketted the conference yesterday campaigning to make London 2012 sweatshop free. With Olympic officials in town, the BOA has taken the opportunity to re-enter talks with LOCOG to resolve the row over financial arrangements beyond the Olympics and Tessa Sanderson has spoken out over concerns that athletics will be sidelined, when West Ham take on the Olympic Stadium.
