New Images Of Revamped London Bridge Station Emerge

Network Rail have released these new images showing a possible future for London Bridge Station.

The busy interchange is among London’s most confusing stations and long overdue a serious rethink. The new plans would see an increase in capacity, with a sub-platform concourse ‘bigger than the pitch at Wembley’, allowing two-thirds more visitors than today. New entrances would be built on both Tooley Street and St Thomas Street.

The redevelopment, part of the Thameslink upgrade programme, would take five years, for planned completion in 2018. Local residents and businesses will now be consulted on the plans.

An exhibition of the plans will open within London Bridge station from 16 May.

That actually looks pretty good. St Pancras has set the mold for a clean, unobtrusive, glassy take on these Victorian sheds. And London Bridge is perhaps the ugliest station in London. Can’t come soon enough.

Is the Tooley Street entrance taking up what is currently the London Dungeon in part?

Actually looks pretty dull compared to what had consent back in 2000 and what was proposed until quite recently. Not sure if this is failing of aspiration on the part of Network Rail or the impact of the planners influence. The St Thomas Street “entrance?” is particularly disappointing and provides no inkling of the massive concourse behind what will be fake replica arches given that the vaults behind will have been demolished. Have some backbone chaps and lets have something that is not scared to be seen.

As a side note, these designs are by the architect Nicholas Grimshaw; you’d think he was sick of meddling with south London transport infrastructure after the way his Waterloo International terminal was discarded after just 13 years service.

Innoffensive enough, but as you say Mr Monkey, a massive de-spec of what was originally planned.

What I do like is the hint of Royal Festival Hall in picture four.

I see this and start to panic as I love to go climbing at The Arches nearby and I bet all this development will push them out :(

Why do they think that everybody likes moden? What was wrong with refurbishing all the old station and keeping it as it was? The roof looks awfull. They need there arsses kicking.
