Preview: Oxford Vs Cambridge Goat Race 2011

Just three years old, our favourite and one of the city's most popular sporting events, the Oxford vs Cambridge Goat Race takes place on Saturday 26 March.

Fairly eclipsing its riverine rival, the annual race between two Golden Guernseys round a cobbled track in an east London farmyard is a boatload more fun but just as intensely competitive. The goats are in training and the blue bunting's already appearing as excitement mounts.

And this year, to stop the goats getting all the glory, there's a stoat race too. Consider them the warm up act, scuttling off at 3pm. Get there for 1pm and you'll also catch the ‘Nice Butt Contest’ and the ‘How Low Can You Goat’ competition.

Tickets for the Goat Race are just £4 but buy online in advance to ensure your track side view of the cantering caprines. The race ploughs money back into Spitalfields City Farm which brings the countryside to the city, providing education and environmental opportunities to local communities in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

The Goat Race takes place at Spitalfields City Farm, E1 on Saturday 26 March. Doors 1pm, race 5pm.

Whilst in Spitalfields, get some more goat at the I Goat sculpture.
