The Idler Academy: Coming Soon

Great excitement at Londonist Towers: a new cafe academy is to open over Paddington way. Those lovely people at the Idler are to open an establishment of sorts, wherein one will be able to sip at coffee and procrastinate, whilst gently improving oneself at a cerebral level. Which is totally in line with our office protocol.

Founder Tom Hodgkinson is aiming to replicate a little of the atmosphere of the eighteenth century coffee houses of London. And to provide a permanent venue for a range of very idle activities - Embroidery! The Ukulele! - and lectures, including one by Idler co-founder and Cloud Appreciation Society founder Gavin Pretor Pinney. The line up also includes Toby Young, Will Self and Murray Lachlan Young.

Most importantly, the Idler Academy captures the ethos of the magazine, wherein everything matters, but nothing matters frightfully. Which provides a refreshing contrast with certain other (and rather more self-important) schools for grown-ups in London.

See you there?

The Idler is to open on 1st March. It is at 81 Westbourne Park Road, LONDON W2 5QH.
