The Kinetica Art Fair returns this weekend to the Ambika P3, the huge art space under Westminster University which has been its home in recent years. Seventeen artists from six countries will contribute to the theme of The Evolution of Consciousness. As ever, expect the weird and wonderful including surreal mechanical sculptures from David Cranmer, techno-animalistic creatures from Christiaan Zwanikken, Alex Posada exploring the language of light through his installation The Particle 1.0 and works from steampunker Sarah Angliss and experimental performer Madaleine Trigg.
If that isn't enough, the fair will see a world first of a new work by Stelarc who is (in)famous for his Ear On Arm project, which involved the grafting of an internet-enabled extra ear onto his forearm. This time around, he will be exploring the human body on stage and simultaneously in Second Life while a Musion holographic system brings Second Life avatars into the auditorium in 3D space; the same system will also power elsewhere the New Opera Hero, which composes music, story, visuals and movement simultaneously to create audio-visual performances.
Last year's fair was spectacular and we don't expect this year's to be any less gawp-worthy. The times for this year's fair are:
Friday, 4 February: 10am-8pm
Saturday, 5 February: 10am-8pm
Sunday, 6 February: 10am-6am
Tickets for the art fair alone are £12 (£10 concessions) while a day ticket (which gets you into talks and performances) costs £15 (£12 concessions).
