Preview: Folk Rising @ Cecil Sharp House, Thursday

Are you a folk music lover, or perhaps feeling the need to jump on and try out that increasingly popular wagon?  Head down to Cecil Sharp House this Thursday for the first of three more Folk Rising events, organised by the brilliant Magpie’s Nest.

The award winning Nesters are promising “a sample of the freshest undiscovered and, at times, radical music being produced within the indefinable folk tradition… This will be a roulette of a musical experience charting the daring and the dangerous, the wonderful and the weird but, above all, suggesting how the future of folk will sound.”

Sounds good to us, and the Camden home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) seems a fitting place to indulge.  On the bill this week are Robin Grey, Gavin Davenport, Jo Burke and Lizzie Nunnery, while further Folk Rising events are planned for 3 March and 13 April.  Tickets are just £5 — you can buy them on the EFDSS website.
