Dance Preview: The Talent, BalletBoyz @ Sadler’s Wells

Balletboyz, like Ronseal, do what they say on the tin. Founders Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, former principles with The Royal Ballet, are boys who do ballet, or at least they were when they burst out of the confines of the classical world and on to the contemporary stage in 2001, pioneering the ‘dance is for boys too’ message.

Last year they handed the Balletboyz baton over to a new generation of male dancers to a new work, aptly named The Talent. After a successful debut tour in 2010, The Talent comes to Sadler’s Wells at the end of March hoping to prove that it is not only Nunn and Trevitt that can make boys dancing look cool.

The hand-picked, all male cast aged between 18 and 24 will perform a programme of three works by choreographers Jarek Cemerek, Paul Roberts and a reworking of the Balletboyz signature duet Torsion by Russell Maliphant, somehow recreated for the now eight strong cast.

Check out the Talent for yourself: say hi to Adam, Anthony, Ed, Jesús, Kai, Leon, Matt, Miguel and Taylor:

The Talent by Balletboyz is at Sadler’s Wells from the 29th of March to 2nd April, tickets from £10.
