Preview: The Old Queen’s Head 5th Birthday Celebrations

"Queens", "head", and "5 year olds" may be phrases you're more likely to find on the Daily Mail's comments section at the moment, but we bring these to you today since Essex Road's infamous boozer, The Old Queens Head, is celebrating its 5th birthday in quite spectacular, multifaceted fashion next month. (We know, the OQH looks a lot older than 5, but you should never ask a lady her age.)

Kicking off the love-in on the 14th - appropriately - with a session with Dr Sketchy and his bevvy of Burlesque Bombshells, they're hosting a week of comedy, live music and DJ sets from established acts such as Mystery Jets, Maccabees, Rob Da Bank, Lucy Porter and Pete Firman, as well as upcoming stars like Grouplove, Big Deal and Sound of Rum. There's still a load of comedy headliners and special musical guests yet to be announced, but since this venue has a long-established history of hosting the likes of Friendly Fires, Bombay Bicycle Club and Paloma Faith, it should be worth keeping an eye on.

Tickets range from £4 to £8.50 in advance, although many of the events are free - their gift to you. And we're guessing that the only thing that'll be rammed down anyone's throat will be a celebratory drink or two. The Queen is Dead, Long Live The Queen.
