Comedy Preview: Frimston and Rowett

Male comic duos rolling off the Cambridge Footlights assembly line normally come in a certain mould – a straight man is chunky-faced and posh (see: Fry, Mitchell) while the comic relief is skinnier and dumb-playing (Laurie, Webb). Neither Frimston nor Rowett look like they need to lay off the pasties, although they are both very funny.

The twosome – that’s Edward Rowett and Robert Frimston – run a monthly comedy show at various intimate venues to debut freshly devised TV-ready sketches to an enthusiastic entourage of whooping young things. They go into their Sunday show at the Canal Café off the back of a battery-recharging three month hiatus, so expect them to be on top form. When we saw them back in October they performed the rare trick of not presenting a single flop of a sketch. One of them should probably start work on their limp and American accent now.

Frimston and Rowett perform on Sunday 16th January, 7.00pm at the Canal Café, W2, £6.50
