The Olympics could be a nice little earner for homeowners near Games venues - a holiday letting agent reckons a one bedroom flat could be rented out for £2k a week. Figures are based on a price spike similar to that experienced in South Africa during the World Cup, for sports fans not keen on forking out for a hotel.
Demand for a lovely pied a terre is already outstripping supply in Greenwich, which will host the equestrian events but also has handy DLR links up to Stratford. Agents say flats in Southwark, Camden and Westminster could also bring in the cash - interestingly, they don't mention the boroughs right on the Olympic stadium's doorstep. Surely canny Newham homeowners can make a few bob as well? And then watch the Games on TV from a beach bar in the French Riviera.
