"Witch's Hat" Causes Northern Line Breakdown

2610_roundel.png To cap off a miserable couple of weeks for Tube travellers — with line closures and breakdowns almost every day, and a tragic death last week — passengers had to escape through the tunnels on Saturday night when the Northern line was stalled after a "witch's hat" fell onto the track (anybody know if Christine O'Donnell is in town?). A piece of metal in the rim of the pointy headgear caused a power outage at Chalk Farm station, halting four trains. It's difficult to pin the blame for this on anyone beyond the foolish wiccaphiliac who let their hat drop onto the track in the first place, but can we expect a decent service on the Underground this week? Not likely: there's another tube strike looming on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
