Parking Enforcement Gets Inventive

Traffic wardens appear to be resorting to ever-increasing measures of ingenuity to zap the unwary. Yesterday, a disabled woman in Wimbledon who found her parking space blocked by a car belonging to traffic wardens had her car ticketed by the very same wardens, while over in Upminster, council workers painted a line underneath a parked car and then slapped a ticket on it. But whereas Havering council somewhat sheepishly said they’d cancel the ticket, Merton straight-facedly stood their ground and enforced theirs. Though at least they still had their cars, unlike this unfortunate motorist who parked illegally on Downing Street last year and returned to find his car had been blown up. Photo by tubb.
