New Restaurant Review: Pizza Metro Pizza

Taking the short walk from Notting Hill Gate Station to the few months old Pizza Metro Pizza, you'll pass at least three other pizzerias (the usual suspects such as Ask and Pizza Express). But based upon the experience of our invited visit, you'll probably be doing yourself a favour by ignoring the rest of the lot and heading straight to this fledgling sister resto of the nearly 20 years old Battersea eatery that shares the same name.

Both Battersea and Notting Hill locations of PMP claim to offer the “longest pizza in town”. Maybe, but they certainly aren't the only al metro place in London … nor the best. Still, the wood oven baked pizzas are very (very!) good and priced kindly.

Dropping by at midday on Friday, we found the “£8.95 lunch” (any starter up to £5.95 and any pizza or pasta up to £9.95 in value) to be a great bargain. Crispy fried mozzarelline fritte (£5.95) as well as equally crisp calamari (£7.95) were devour-able starters that caused saving room for the mains to be a challenge. Nevertheless we persevered through a highly recommendable Margherita pizza (£8.50) and a slightly intriguing fusilli alla San Gennaro (fresh fusilli pasta with onions, sausages, smoked mozzarella, peanuts and cream, £11) and were glad to have done so!

Providing West Londoners with no nonsense yumminess blended with a bit of Neapolitan panache in a comfortable and clean setting, Pizza Metro Pizza is located at 147-149 Notting Hill Gate, W11 3LF. Visit the restaurant online at www.pizzametropizza.com.
