Can't afford university tuition fees? Have some frugal fun at the university of life*.

Tonight: Join a free night of cider appreciation at the Big Green Bookshop, Wood Green N22 6BG from 7pm. James Russell introduces ‘The Naked Guide to Cider’.

If you're free during the day, get on your bike with Internet Week geeks and cycle round the best events in good company. Free but RSVP. Starts at Mother, Redchurch Street, E2 7DD.

Friday: The World Press Photo 2010 exhibition opens today in the Level 2 foyer, Royal Festival Hall. Free, open till 11pm and runs till 5 December.

Saturday: It's the Lord Mayor's Show with three miles of "splendid pageantry" and that gold coach processing from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice, starting at 11am.

Sunday: Get a free taste of the London Jazz Festival in the Clore Ballroom at the Royal Festival Hall with Little Red Suitcase at 3pm ~ check the website for other free jazz events.

Monday: Take your Monday Medicine at the Wheatsheaf, Rathbone Place W1T 1DG with a dose of work in progress shows by Andrew O'Neill and Diane Spencer, plus new stuff from Jim Smallman, James Sherwood and Ian Smith. 8-10pm, free entry.

Art Saves Lives celebrate their first anniversary with another Big Night Out at Quintessentially Soho, Greek Street W1D 4NQ. Music, poems and more from 7.30pm.

It's over a week late for Halloween but who doesn't love Ghostbusters? Catch a free screening of the classic 1984 film at The Alibi Film Club, Kingsland Road E8 2PB. Film at 9pm.

Tuesday: Hoopla presents Music Box improvising a one act comedy musical based on audience suggestions at the Miller, London Bridge SE1 3SS from 8pm. £5 on the door.

Wednesday: The Peckham Literary Festival begins with Routemaster lover Travis Elborough talking about his new seaside book at Review on Bellenden Road, SE15. 7.30pm, free.
