Full-Scale Replica Of ‘New Routemaster’ Unveiled

1609_routemaster.jpg Mayor Boris Johnson this morning introduced a full-size replica of the New Bus for London, aka the replacement for Routemaster, at the London Transport Museum depot in Acton. Built in the spirit of the superannuated London icon, the new bus has a rear open deck, two more doors at the front, two staircases, and will employ a conductor. Sadly, and unlike Tube train mock-ups which the public are allowed to clamber across, this model is reserved for stakeholders, user groups, and operators. The BBC has a picture of the model, which is a No. 23 bus; a preview, perhaps, at one of the routes that will get the new vehicles when they launch in early 2012?

I’m sorry, I know it’s a lot of money etc etc, but something about that picture on the BBC website sent a tingle down my spine.

What exactly constitutes a ‘stakeholder’? Would the London Association of Bloggers (which I have just established in my head) count?

The tingle I get is sadness that the people at the bottom in London are going to be told to pay for it…

Pretty much the same feeling I get watching the tweed wearing masses on the massively subsidies Boris bikes…

There’s a lot of redistribution going on in this Mayors policies – in the wrong direction.
