I read that story about female Boris Bikists last night in the Stannit with much amusement. Speaking personally (and for everyone that doesn’t live in Zone 1?) I don’t use the bikes to commute, just to skip across town somewhere that’s quicker (and obviously cheaper) by bike than it is by tube. For instance, it’s 10-15 mins to Oxford Street from Old Street, which at rush hour isn’t likely either by Northern/Piccadilly or by Northern/Central.

Also – when in Paris recently I noticed that the Vélibs have a proper basket on the front not the BB’s excuse – is it sexist to suspect that perhaps ladies need somewhere to put their handbags?
