What's On In London This Weekend? 8-10 October

Looks like a glorious, Indian summer weekend. What are you up to? Here's a round up of our recommendations and a smattering of suggestions to help you make the most of your 48 hours leisure time.

All weekend:

  • The Story of London Festival continues and there's loads on. Have a browse round their website. You could imagine London without Bazalgette with the help of a scratch and sniff gin card. Explore Upper Street N1 through promenade theatre. Find out about the innovators and inventors of Tower Hamlets or take a Blue Badge Guide walk round the Lea Valley as it transforms for 2012.
  • Chill out and fill your bellies at the Towpath Festival at the Towpath Cafe by the canal in Haggerston.
  • The London Festival of Nigerian Film AKA Nollywood Now runs until Tuesday at Deptford Town Hall.
  • Oxjam London rocks on
  • Plenty to see at Photomonth exhibitions around East London
  • Friday:

  • Get retro rock n roll nostalgia with Hendrix in London at the Odeon, Covent Garden from 3pm (SoL).
  • It's our London themed quiz at the Royal Institution tonight from 7pm. Get there early to secure a good table. £8 per team with all proceeds to charity. A stonking Londony goodie bag for the fact filled quiz champions (SoL).

    Saturday:

  • It's Apple Day at Cecil Sharp House, proffering barn dancing, clog dancing, storytelling, folk song and ukelele workshops, wassailing, tasting and of course all things appley. From 2pm, adults £6, kids £4, family tickets £18.
  • London Transport Museum runs simultaneous scavenger hunts at either end of the London Overground line: Croydon and Hackney.
  • Imagine waving Goodbye London at Museum of London with Shoot Experience (11.30am-6pm - last minute tickets now half price - just £6) (SoL).
  • London Roller Girls step up their game with their first roller derby bout of the new season at a new venue: Brompton Hall, Earls Court. 4pm, £15.
  • Old fashioned gamers, don't forget BoardGameCamp at the London Games Festival.
  • Sunday:

  • It's the Big Draw and the biggest draw this weekend for us is the inclusion of amazing Hand Drawn Maps that you, dear readers, have created. Go along to the Museum of London to see them and if you feel inspired, add your own to the collection.
  • Apple Day turns up south of the river today, at Roots and Shoots 11am-4pm. Adults £1, kids free.
  • Keeping it seasonal, it's the Hampstead Heath Conker Championships. Welly wanging and other daft family fun from 11am. The serious nutting gets going at 3pm.
  • Other good stuff:

Don't forget to comb our specialist selections: all things literary in the Book Grocer, gigs galore in Music Choice and things for when you're skint in London on the Cheap.

You can also browse all latest arts and events features and salivate over our latest food and drink content for gastronomic inspiration.

What are you doing? Let us know in the comments. And have a stonking time.
