Waterloo Expansion May Be Axed

1410_waterloo.png Another casualty of next week's spending review could be Waterloo station: the plan to integrate the old Eurostar platforms into the national network may be shelved for now. After closing in 2007, commuters were promised that the five platforms, which cost £2 million per year to keep mothballed, would be ready for use within a year; indeed, Londonist once naively reported that they'd open in December 2008. Beyond integrating the Waterloo platforms, Network Rail have big plans for the station, including a new shopping centre and office block; like passengers at Britain's busiest railway station, they might be waiting a long time.
