Olympic Park To Be Named After The Queen

0710_olympics.png Much like her great-great-grandmother Victoria, Queen Elizabeth is to lend her name to a swathe of east London parkland: the Olympic Park in Stratford is to be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after the Games have concluded, though we reckon locals will know it as Elizabeth or Lizzy Park.

The announcement came as the Olympic Park Legacy Committee unveiled its new plans
, which have changed substantially from the original design. Where residential blocks predominated, the new scheme is inspired by London's traditional John Nash-built terraced houses and garden squares. The 500-acre site will have around 8,000 homes in mostly low-rise developments, a reduction from the originally proposed 10,000, with more space now afforded to gardens and other green areas.
