The London duo of Japanese restaurants that is Tsuru (Bankside and Bishopsgate) has updated its already yummy menu with a half dozen or so items priced between £4.50 and £7. After a sampling of the new dishes, Londonist is pleased to say we very much approve!

Highlights include seared cured mackerel served with English mustard (try it with a glass of la Gitana Manzanilla - yeah, they serve sherry now too), tangy niku miso (ground beef in red miso with firm tofu) and a gorgeously crispy kushi katsu (pork and red onion katsu with an intriguing “Japanese HP Sauce”) that's practically perfect for the unavoidable winter weather to come. As addictive as popcorn, a garlicky helping of chilli rice is one we'll definitely devour again (although there was some debate among our dining companions as to whether its recipe needed almonds or not). For puds, Tsuru won us over with some refreshing and cleansing yuzu, green tea and sesame mochi ice. Welcome additions to an already tasty menu, Tsuru's new items are available now.

Tsuru is located at 4 Canvey Street, SE1 9AN and 201 Bishopsgate, EC2M 3UG. Visit Tsuru online at www.tsuru-sushi.co.uk.
