Continuing our amble round London's independent bookshops

We've been to Daunt before, but this newest arm of their burgeoning empire marks a new episode for bookselling in the City. Other than Waterstone's, we're not aware of any other bookshops in the Square Mile (though we're prepared to be set right in the comments), and this two storey emporium on Cheapside more than makes up for the lack. As you'd expect from Daunt the selection is excellent, with a large travel section in the basement. Even though they only opened Monday we reckon they're bedding in nicely - of course, it's not like this is new to them - and we're also quite excited by the news that the shop is open at weekends.

Daunt aren't entirely free from competition though - Foyles recently announced a 'booktique' for One New Change, opening at the end of the month. We'll be along to see how it compares.
