Four-Car Trains Come To London Overground

1902_overground_roundel.jpg Commuters on the North London line branch of London Overground (between Richmond and Stratford) will soon have some relief from the rampant rush-hour overcrowding: from this week, four-car trains will gradually be introduced on the line. Since the new air-conditioned fleet launched in July last year, the trains been run in three-car configurations, hence the additional carriage will mean a lot more room to spread out in during peak services. Commuters on the East London line have enjoyed four-car luxury since the service launched in April this year. In other Overground news, nostalgists (and, perhaps, masochists) may be interested to learn that the last of the old Silverlink trains which have run the line since the 1970s will be taken out of service this week.

Uhh, going from three carriages to four is a 1/3 increase, or 33%. Not 25%.

Hey, don’t blame me, blame Thatcher.

If there really are any nostalgists for the Silverlink trains then they can enjoy them in future on the coastal lines in and out of Brighton.
The decent trains that ran before are all being moved up to London while the lovely ex-Silverlinks go the other way.
