Clapham grass: not the whispered sales patter of your local SW4 dealer, but a car-free initiative this Sunday, September 19th, in the pleasant burg beloved by the middle classes. The streets of the old town will be covered with a lawny layer in a one-day event that aims to show how the area could be improved by banning traffic. There will be clowns and face-painting for the kids (a ubiquitous accessory in Clapham) and a local pedal-powered band will provide musical accompaniment. Previous icons of London given the gramineous treatment include Trafalgar Square and the Lyttleton flytower (pictured).
