Appeal For Cash To Save Blackheath Fireworks

fireworks150910.jpg One of the first visible signs of council cost-cutting has been announced in Lewisham: if you want to see the famous fireworks on Blackheath this year, you're going to have to pay for it. Lewisham Council has launched an appeal to secure the display, claiming that if each of the 800,000 people who attend give £1, the event will be able to go ahead as planned. As an example of the low-cost airline style of running local services it's minor but feels depressingly swingeing; also, as 853 points out, Blackheath fireworks is a joint venture. Has Greenwich Council pulled out? What's their take on Lewisham's appeal? (Image / megapiksel)
