Tube strikes are expected this autumn, but how many? A strike has been pencilled in for September 6th; the Standard says similar 24-hour stoppages could happen every month, which sounds bad enough, but according to the Beeb, the unions are threatening to hold them every week. The plan for future strike dates will be thrashed out tomorrow at a meeting between the RMT and the TSSA. For those who keep count of the ongoing skirmishes between union and management, this brouhaha concerns London Underground plans to reduce ticket office opening hours (and hence staffing requirements); LU argue that Oyster cards have reduced the need for ticket offices, while the unions want to keep their members in gainful employment.
