Book Grocer: 18-24 August

BookGrocer1.jpg The week ahead in literary London, still truncated by people being on holiday. Chuh, eh?

Wednesday: Jonny Fluffypunk hosts Apples and Snakes's Jawdance at Rich Mix (7.30pm, free), with John Dredge, Layila Rage, KeliAnne B, Dikson Monro and a premiere of a new short poetry film from Kate Tempest.

Openned Press hosts a launch night at Carnivale, with readings from Richard Parker, Tim Atkins, Michael Kindellan and Linus Slug plus music and films (7.30pm, free).

Simon Rich, writer from Saturday Night Live, launches his novel Elliot Allagash at To Hell With Books at their new location in Cecil Court (6.30pm, free).

There's family storytelling at the British Library today and tomorrow at 11am and 2.30pm, free.

Thursday: The Firestation Book Swap in Windsor celebrates its first birthday by waiving the entrance fee. Scott Pack and Marie Phillips invite authors Matt Rudd and Andrew Kaufman (whose All My Friends Are Superheroes you absolutely must read), and there'll be cake and random questions galore (7.45pm).

Bernard Kops has, after 40 plays, nine novels and two autobiographies, written a collection of poems. He's talking about it at Lauderdale House at 8pm (£5 / £3).

Young writers Jonathan Lee and Kei Miller head to Keats House in the company of Daunt to discuss their work (7pm, £5).

Saturday: We've already told you about all-day festival Semiotics, but reminders never hurt. As well as the music and art, poetry comes from Roddy Lumsden, Jack Underwood, Tim Cockburn, Oli Hazzard, David Tait, Amy De'ath and Clinic Poets at Utrophia (starts at 3pm, £3).

Tuesday: Take the kids to the British Library to make a word map, inspired by the Magnificent Maps exhibition (11am and 2.30pm, free).
