Review: Golfing Near Liverpool Street

With Tiger's return, golf is all over the news at the moment. But you don't need to head out to an exorbitant countryside retreat club to get a taste of the fairway. The City Limits Golf is just a driving wedge away from Liverpool Street station, in the shadow of the Broadgate Tower.

As golfing novices, we tagged along with our golfaphile mate and honorary londonista, Ol, who was happy to show us the ropes. There are 16 driving range bays to choose from. Having picked up our clubs and a bucket of balls we settled in for an upper-level spot and commenced whacking some balls.

If you're a golfer looking to.sharpen your game, you'll love this place. Likewise, so long as there's someone on hand to show you how to swing, newbies will have a good craic too. In fact, hitting balls beneath one of the City's tallest buildings on a sunny day we started.to see golf's appeal - those few sweet shots among the slices felt pretty good...

So, what's the deal? Members (£20 per year) pay £5 for 40 balls; non-members pay £6, and clubs are £3 - we shared a set.

There's a bar, but if you're looking for a beer after your efforts, we recommend The Water Poet where you can continue in the 'sporting' vein with a game of pool. Meanwhile, we have our eyes on other sports in the City, and will report back soon.

City Limits Golf Club can be found on Worship Street, EC2A 2BA. Open 8am-9pm week days, 10am-6pm weekends.
