Deckchairs Decked Out By Designers

Deckchair.jpg UK artists and designers, among them hat designer Philip Treacy and cartoonist Ronald Searle have been invited to create artwork that will feature on 700 deckchairs this summer.

You can find them in Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Green Park, St James Park and Regents Park - and if you’re particularly keen to own and not just rent one, they will be available to buy from 9 August, on the Royal Parks online shop. Prices unconfirmed at this point but last year’s Tracey Emin deckchair went for £100.00 each. Renting costs £1.50 for an hour, £4.00 for 3 hours and £7.00 for the whole day. The designer deckchairs will also be on show in China, in the Shanghai Botanical Gardens, though it’s not clear if they will be available to rent or buy while on display.

Can someone please do a Banksy and sneak in a deckchair designed and printed with a satirical spraypaint stencil? Or add one to the mix with instructions on how to adjust the height on a deckchair without losing a finger, one’s dignity or temper? Leave them in Green Park for us, thanks. Image author's own
