We’ve already seen the docking stations for the Cycle Hire scheme being installed, but photographer Andrew Mason has snapped some of the Barclays-branded bikes themselves being put in place down SE1 way.

The cycles should be available for use from July 30th. What odds the bikes won’t have been pinched by launch day?

I saw two people attempting to drop off Barclays bikes beside the British Museum on Tuesday night, but they seemed to have trouble doing so – perhaps as those terminals were not activated. There have been no other bikes docked there since.

(unless I’ve missed something) How come we still can’t sign up to become a member and get a key etc? Are we all going to be forced to pay every day for the first few months till they get their act together?

Why on earth is it not just integrated with Oyster?

And what happens if you go to return the bike to a dock but it’s already full, due to being somewhere that everyone wants to go?

Probably ’cause they need credit card numbers to dissuade folk from just pinching the bikes.

And what happens if you go to return the bike to a dock but it’s already full, due to being somewhere that everyone wants to go?

The answer to this is something like, if you get to a docking station that’s full, there will be instructions on it to a nearby one with spaces (oh, and the extra time it takes to get to the second station won’t count, so if you get to a full one with a minute to spare, it’ll effectively count the bike as being returned on time).
