BBC Visits Abandoned Tube Station

1507_stmarys.jpg The BBC has taken a tour (video) around St Mary's tube station for part of their ongoing series, The London Nobody Knows. Opened in 1884, the station was situated between Whitechapel and Aldgate East; when the latter shifted eastwards and opened a new entranceway just a few minutes walk from St Mary's, the decision was made to close it permanently in 1938. It served as an air-raid shelter during the war but has rarely been visited since (although Tox has managed to get his tag in there), which makes this video all the more fascinating for anyone interested in London's many hidden-away subterranean secrets.
