The Great Drag Race At London Fields Today

great_drag_race.jpg At lunchtime today, a 10.2km race that requires its participants to (a) be male, and (b) “wear flamboyant female clothing for the length of the route” will be taking place at London Fields. The Great Drag Race is intended to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Support Federation, as well as raising awareness of prostate cancer and openness to discuss a condition that “kills almost as many men as breast cancer kills women”. They are looking for spectators, but it’s not yet too late to actually take part if you fancy it - if you can get along to London Fields for midday, complete with inappropriately loud womenswear, you can pay £10 to register for the race. Even if you’re not up for actively participating, cheap drinks, home-made burgers and cakes are also promised. Festivities start at 1:30pm; the race begins at 2pm.
