The Camberwell Fair. Sarah Sparkes after Sidney Shepherd

Camberwell seethes with art and strange stuff but this (hopefully) sweltering Sunday it all melts in to one musky whole on Camberwell Green with the Chutney Preserves Animal Fair. The Chutney Preserves, guided by art-happening genius Sarah Sparks, are a collection of artists looking to create “a one day public art work, which visitors to the green can interact with, or just observe if they choose.” (Also known as a 'festival'.)

Now in it’s fourth year, the theme for 2010 is 'animals' and there is a packed program of beastly fun including japes from the fantastically monikered Urban Bear Research Centre, an ANIMUSIMAL with “home-made animal costumes, sing songs, and dance, with live backing music; there’s even a song sheet on the site if you wish to join in, and the fabulous Rachael House’s Pet-Tastic museum. Rachel will be asking 'Do dog headed people walk among us?’.

There’s times and a full line-up that reads like Chris Packham’s fevered take on ‘The Wind in the Willows' meets 'The Wicca Man’ at the Chutney Preserves website. The event is free and runs from 1pm to 7pm on Sunday 27 June.
