Preview: Midsummer Party @ Parliament Hill Lido

Cry if you wish, but midsummer is nearly upon us: the solstice rolls round next Wednesday, June 23rd. Clearly, the best way to celebrate such a significant day of the year is with a spot of al fresco bathing. Fortunately, the Outdoor Swimming Society are holding their annual Midsummer Party at Parliament Hill lido next week.

The lido will be open throughout the evening as the sun sets, allowing for a spot of nightswimming, which deserves a quiet night — not that such a thing is likely with musical accompaniment from keen swimmer DJ Ed Bigland. Those who are afeared of the chilly water can take refuge in the hot tub. There is also a tajine (meat and veg options available), and imbibers are invited to bring their own bottle, for which communal ice buckets will be available.

Current weather forecasts project a clear night and daytime highs of 23 degrees, which is significantly more pleasant than the temperatures experienced by all those foolish enough to try out the midwinter dip at Brockwell lido.

Midsummer Lido Party, 23rd June 2010, from 6pm - 10pm, at Parliament Hill Lido, Hampstead Heath. Nearest rail: Gospel Oak. Tickets cost £20, which includes lido entrance, food, and Pimms.
