If you are a cyclist or are thinking of becoming one then Bike Week is for you. Running from the 19 to the 27 of June it is a celebration of all things cycling related. There's a huge number of events throughout the UK so check the Bike Week website for something near you. But here are a some London highlights:

British Waterways is onboard with a week of tempting events. Next Monday there is live music by the River Rat Pack outside the Palm Tree Pub in Mile End Park - an easy one to reach by cycling along the pleasant canal towpaths. On Tuesday there's a leisurely 8 mile bike ride taking in historical houses and lock keepers cottages. The day after you can get a free cup of coffee and a bike safety check at Hawley Lock in Camden. At the weekend take a tour of the hidden art galleries along Islington towards Tower Hamlets. Finally on Sunday, cross the Islington Tunnel with a canal boat. Also worth a look is your local cycling campaigns website who will be putting on organised rides which are great for discovering London and meeting people. There are also plenty of bike safety checks with free coffee and food. The week is a great opportunity to find out more about cycling safely in London. For more information see the British Waterways website or the Camden Cycling Campaign’s list of events. Now get on your bike. By Andreas Kambanis. Andreas runs London Cyclist and is author of the 25 London Cycle Routes eBook
