Seen that big up-turned purple cow gracing Southbank with its presence? That’s the E4 Udderbelly. Back for its second year, it’ll be open until July 18th.

The promoters of Udderbelly like a pun, oh yes they do, but we’re going to resist the temptation to regale you with all 35 that we came up with in the pub, as we’re sure you can add your own as you see fit. To get you started though, try ‘x gives you the horn’ and ‘got beef with x’ on for size (of a cow). Sorry.

So what’s on offer? There’s plenty to be excited about this year from comedy to cabaret - for full listings check out their site. We’ll endeavour to bring you reviews/previews of their headline shows, but for now our top picks are: Andrew Lawrence, who we saw some time ago upstairs at the Camden Head when he was just starting out - he was ace then and we’re hoping he’s still ace now; everyone’s favourite fat bastard, Alexei Sayle; and, gloriously, Sergeant Jones, the freaky sound effect man from Police Academy, aka Michael Winslow!

Should you not fancy one of the shows it’s a good place just to go and loll about. There’s fake turf all around the venue and this year they’ll be showing the World Cup games outside it. Happy days.

Let us know your top picks. We’re off to see the hotly tipped Carl Donnelly at the Soho Theatre next Friday; he’s playing Udderbelly next month, so we’ll be sure to let you know what we think.
