Cosmic Sausages at 2009's Brockley Max
We've long been impressed by Brockley's community spirit, channelled online through Brockley Central and manifested annually in Brockley Max, a community arts festival. Kicking off on Friday the 9th Brockley Max should be the biggest and best to date, given the area's now sitting pretty - like Crystal Palace - on the East London Line extension.

63 events over 9 days will showcase the talents of local artists and residents and demonstrate the creativity and civic pride evident across Brockley, Crofton Park and Ladywell.

Opening night sees a beefy line up of music and dancing from 4pm till late. During the week try your hand at yoga, contemporary dance, Pilates, Brazilian dance, salsa, life drawing and Congolese.

If you want to win the Maxxed Out Quiz on Tuesday night, you'd better brush up on your local knowledge. The good folk behind Brockley Central host a free social at the Ladywell Tavern on Thursday 3 June. Head out to Hilly Fields for Brockley's take on the drive in movie on Friday 4 June at 8pm (weather permitting). The Marquee of Moonbow will be set up on Hilly Fields for 3 days of performance with jazz, comedy and poetry on Friday, music on Saturday and classical music and dance on Sunday (£4 per day or just £10 for a 3 day pass). Outside the marquee, Saturday goes a bit mental getting into the Hacienda groove with all sorts going on from midday to midnight.

If you're local, get out there and get involved. Other Londoners roll up, admire and try and take a bit of Brockley spirit home with you.

Brockley Max runs 18 May - 5 June. Download the full programme here and get excited checking out pictures of last year's event.
