The Montague on the Gardens is a terribly English luxury four-star boutique hotel right round the corner from the British Museum with an attractive and spanking new Wood Deck overlooking the gardens of the Bedford Estate. So, when the hotel invited Londonist to attend the season's first barbecue on the new deck, we were like all sorts of 'oh yes please'. Not only does a barbecue at The Montague have a nice rhythmic rhyme to it but on an evening such as this one (fingers crossed there will be plenty more!), it's a fabulous setting for sipping Pimms and lemonade, chowing down on freshly grilled burgers and simply enjoying the feeling of being in a secret little salubrious slice of outdoor life in Bloomsbury.

Weather permitting, the Wood Deck (along with The Montague's Terrace restaurant) will serve barbecue dishes for al fresco lunch and dinners daily between 12.30pm and 10.30pm until the 12th of September. Prices start from £19.50 per person for two courses and £24.50 for three when dining from the Table d'Hote menu. An a la carte menu is also available. If the sun's shining and you've got the time, it's a lovely spot to get away from it all while staying put in Central London.

The Montague on the Gardens is situated prettily at 15 Montague Street (WC1B 5BJ). Scope 'em online at www.montaguehotel.com.
