Continuing our caffeine-fueled quest to show you some of our favourite coffee shops in London

Like the best cup of coffee, ScooterCaffe is a rich blend. In fact, it’s a downright confusing one. It’s a coffee shop but there’s late night cocktails. It’s a cafe but there’s barely any food. It looks Italian but the owner’s a Kiwi. There's a Vespa in the window...

The story of how it came about is even more off-the-wall. When Craig O’Dwyer came to England he opened up Scooterworks - a scooter and parts shop. As luck would have it, as well as being a scooter expert (we’re talking motorbikes, not the kiddie ones) he was also a collector of vintage coffee machines and after serving coffees to a few customers from his 1957 Faema espresso machine, people started to come for the coffee alone.

The scooter shop has now moved to Bermondsey leaving Lower Marsh with a super-cool cafe that (we think) serves some of the best coffee you’ll get in London. Their beans are from Londinium and are ground on-site - we love the exotic, fruity flavours in the espresso, not to mention the bubbly frothiness of it all.

Given you could spend the day chilling out here (and there’s WiFi) we’re grateful that there isn’t a coffee that’s more than a couple of pounds. And if the caffeine gets too much, the hot chocolate’s good, too. Plus there’s a courtyard to enjoy any stray rays of sunshine, and we’re particularly loving their twist on BYO - it’s bring your own food. Any freelancers out there, you could do much worse than this for an office.

ScooterCaffe is in the shadow of Waterloo station at 132 Lower Marsh, SE1 7AE.
