georgefestbeer.jpg Feeling Patriotic? Or just like English food and beer? Either way, it’s worth seeking out the Lord Clyde on Essex Road this weekend where you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Last night, Mat, one half of the partnership that own the Clyde, proudly showed us the range of beer they’ve gathered for their St George’s weekender. Covering the width and breadth of our green and pleasant land are 16 beers, including the gloriously named Jack and the Dragon and Weymouth Harbour Master, while representing London they offer the delectable Wandle.

The menu is looking tantalising, but is yet to be finalised - the chef, Chris Ward, needs to try the beers (oh! the hardship!) before he can decide whether certain dishes will work. One idea: steamed mussels in Ginger Beer. Another: baked chestnut mushrooms with a yet to be selected ale and rarebit dip.

Should you tire of staring at the range of beers on offer you can take your booze to the garden and sit amongst the plants - hops, grapes, an apple tree sapling, and best of all… a Black Sambuca!
