This Saturday at 4.30pm the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race shoots off down the river. There will be big screens in Bishops Park, Fulham and Furnival Gardens, Hammersmith and there are plenty of spots along the route where you can catch a glimpse of the crews whizzing by but it you fancy a pint with your sporty spectatorship, here are some top tips from them that knows:

Landmark bar by the river at Putney with prime views of the start of the race.
Duke's Head
(Putney)?
Well-placed grand Young's pub with great views over the river at the starting line.
Crabtree Tavern
(Hammersmith)?
Impressive pub with a terrace on the river that is likely to be chocker - get there early.
Blue Anchor
(Hammersmith)?
Pleasant refurbished pub with excellent Thameside views nearing the half-way mark.
The Rutland
(Hammersmith)?
An acceptable pub with views of the river about half-way along the race course.
Dove
(Hammersmith)
?Pleasant old Fuller's pub on the river, and one of our favourites on this stretch.
Old Ship Inn
(Hammersmith)?
Very popular pub on the river that is likely to be more than heaving on race day.
The Bull's Head
(Barnes)?
Another landmark, this 19th century staging post has great views nearing the end of the course.
Ye White Hart
(Barnes)?
Wonderful views of the Thames in this older style Young's pub on the last bend of the race.
The Ship
(Mortlake)
Rightly famous, this is a huge Victorian pub on the river with glorious surroundings at the finish line - get there early.
