Trainspotting Talmud, London Reconnections is reporting that the new East London Line (or London Overground, as it's now known) is likely to commence a limited service on Thursday, April 15th.

According to the site, the "live testing operation" will see trains run between Dalston Junction and New Cross Gate between 7am and 8pm, from Monday to Friday. The full early morning, evening and weekend service, as well as the extension out to New Cross and on to Croydon, will begin on the official opening date, which remains May 23rd. We eagerly await the all-important moment when Boris Johnson officially opens the new service, and takes plaudits for a project that has been in progress since before he even wheezed upon the idea of running for Mayor; that date has yet to be announced by City Hall.

As this is only a rumour, don't blame Londonist if you're stuck waiting in Wapping on the 15th for a train that never arrives. In the meantime, take a look at our recent tour along the new line.
