Vote For Your Favourite London Museum

artfundsmall.jpg Four London museums have made it onto the longlist for the 2010 Art Fund Prize. The Natural History Museum, Hampton Court Palace, the Royal Institution and the National Army Museum have all excelled in the past year and are gagging for your votes. The quartet are part of a selection of eleven UK venues chosen by an impressive judging panel. The winner will receive a pot of £100,000, which would come in handy during these cash-strapped times, particularly for the two smaller venues. Your votes and comments won’t count directly, but will be ‘considered by the Judges in their decision-making process’. The winner will be announced on 30 June.

I love the Natural History Museum. The building itself is magnificent and inspiring, and everything they do is carefully thought out and imaginatively presented. Their wildlife photography exhibitions are unmissable. Their Charles Darwin exhibition last year was so interesting that I went back twice. Their monthly late night openings are unique – nothing compares to live music with a glass of wine under the dinosaur in the entrance hall. And what could possibly be more important than promoting knowledge of and enthusiasm for the natural world? I’m sure they’re responsible for launching innumerable careers in science. If there’s any spare cash going, please give it to the Natural History Museum. They deserve it.
