London Bids For 2015 World Athletics Championships

1802_stadium.jpg The Olympic Stadium, searching for a 'legacy' purpose with all the desperation of an ageing and ineloquent footballer who's just suffered a serious injury, may just have found something to shoot for post-2012. The International Association of Athletics Federations has announced that London is one of three cities vying to host the 2015 World Athletics Championships. The games, held every two years, have never been staged in the UK, even though Team GB are ninth in the overall medal table. By lucky coincidence, Seb Coe has a certain sway with the IAAF, serving as Vice President. London will have to see of rival bids from Beijing and the southern Polish city of Chorzow.

We may not have hosted them, but we did bid for and win the 2005 games, to be held at pickets lock stadium... Which of course was never built, so we were embarrisingly ditched and the games moved to Finland.
