Early Verdict On The London Weekly: “A Shocker”

newsreader.jpg It exists! New freesheet The London Weekly has been spotted in the wild by eagle-eyed commuters this morning. And the early verdict is not promising…

@jennferesque has a photo of the masthead, complete with poor spelling, acres of empty white space, and curious formatting decisions. Wanna read an interview with Phil “Tufnel”? Then dive right in.

Gordon MacMillan, on the Brand Republic blog, gives a more damning verdict: “worse than you could imagine”, “low quality and badly designed”, and a “real turn-off for advertisers”. Ouch. He’s also got some images from the inside page, showing some of the worst graphic design this side of the Smash Hits 1992 Annual.

Have you managed to get a copy of what will surely become a rare collectors’ item? Drop us a comment or send us a pic. In the meantime we’re going to scour the streets for one.

They were giving them out at London Bridge this morning. Perhaps the worst designed newspaper ever to make it to the streets of London. My favourite aspects are the bizarre centering of some of the headlines and the twenty year old photo of Brad Pitt. Is this a spoof? I’m framing my copy.

I got one from the half-arsed distro round the back door of Leicester Sq tube. I particularly admire the out of focus picture of a pile of sick used to promote the Earl’s Court Food thing at the top of page nine

It’s kind of deliriously bad. As wonky as rumoured. My favourite error – ‘top ten romantic getaways’ only has five in it. Feels almost like a wind-up.

    My theory … it’s a task on this year’s Apprentice … ‘design a London free-sheet in a week’.

Any in-depth interviews with Alan Sugar inside?

Well it is at least a quick read, like between two stops on the tube quick, then straight to bin without the usual recourse of back of seat.
