Brick Lane Sculpture Not Popular With Locals

2502_arches.jpg The "hijab gates" planned for the north and south end of Brick Lane have attracted 158 letters of complaint from local residents, and not a single missive of support, according to a report by Tower Hamlets council. Blithely ignoring these sentiments, TH are pressing ahead with the scheme, part of a £2m "cultural trail" through the Spitalfields environs. The consultation period finished on Monday, and the planning application will be considered by Tower Hamlets development committee next week; if approved, the trail will be complete by the end of the year.
